Welcome Message from the General Co-Chairs

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the Ninth IEEE International Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC 04). Alexandria (Egypt), founded in the year 332 BC and known for its library that had the largest collection of books in the ancient world, has been selected to host this year Symposium.

The ISCC series of symposia is an annual gathering of an increasingly growing international community of computer and communications technology professionals coming from many countries across the Globe and covering academic, industrial, and governmental R&D institutions.

It is the purpose of this symposium to address the latest research and development effort in the field of computers and communications. This Symposium topics include ad-hoc wireless networks, sensor networks, wireless mobile networks and wireless LANs, optical communications, network and system management, quality of service, agent technology, web services and e-commerce/e-government, security and cryptography, data mining, database applications, technology management, distributed systems, and many others.

Previous ISCCC meetings took place in the beautiful countries situated on the Mediterranean Sea; in Alexandria, Egypt in 1995 and 1997, in Athens, Greece in 1998, in Sharm El-Sheikh, on the Red Sea coast of Egypt in 1999, on the beautiful French Riviera in Juan Les Pins in 2000, in Hammamet, Tunisia in 2001, in Taormina, Italy in 2002, and in Antalya, Turkey in 2003.

The distinguished Co-Chairs of the technical committee did an outstanding job managing the technical submissions of 480 papers, an ISCC record. The success of the conferences depends on the tireless efforts of many people. We would like to mention here, in particular, members of the technical program committee for their careful reviews of the submissions and their selection of such a strong program.

The Tenth IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC'05) is scheduled to take place in Spain from 1-4 July 2005. Planning meeting for ISCC'2005 is scheduled during ISCC04 conference in Alexandria, Egypt.

CONFERENCE CITY

The 9th IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC’2004) is being held in the city of Alexandria, Egypt, in 2004.
Alexandria, situated on a narrow strip of land between the Mediterranean Sea and lake Mariotis, is an important historical city, a thriving trade port, and a cultural melting pot. Also called the mermaid of the Mediterranean Sea, it was established in the 332 BC by Alexander the Great and carries his name till today. Originally designed by Denokrates, the city declined and rose several times, and now is the second largest city of Egypt. Present day Alexandria, apart from its historical heritage, which represents itself in its many archaeological remains, is endowed with a gamut of other breathtaking sites, proving to be an ideal destination for any visitor.

CONFERENCE VENUE

The conference hotel is the Helnan Palestine Hotel which has a unique location overlooking the Montaza Royal beach and gardens. Its bay is surrounded by vast magnificent gifts of nature, the gardens of the Montaza Royal Palace, which was once the site of the late King Farouk.

TRAVEL TO EGYPT

The best way to travel to Egypt is by air. There are regular flights from most major cities in Europe, North America and the Far East to the Alexandria International Airport.

The official language of the Symposium will be English.
